Q. Is this a casual game or a universe sim?
option1 - The interaction of gravity between objects in space
About the physical play of gravity that one object exerts on others.
- More casual and abstract
option2 - The experience of making a universe
About the unfathomable scale and complexity of the universe, how it has formed and evolves.
- My only concerns about this as a theme is that it could hamper actual "fun" game play and could mean a much larger development.
cool, i think you could go with the second option if you found a nugget of interaction/experience that conveyed that. the game itself doesn't have to be complex even though that's a horribly complex theme/topic to tackle.
ReplyDeleteA good example of this would be Conway's Game of Life.
thanks Greg, if I apply the core game mechanic of collecting and throwing things into orbit in a overlapping scheme(i.e. solar, galactic, cosmic) that might start get closer to conveying the scale and complexity, but it seems like there could be more, plus those 3 seem slightly limited somehow. Maybe “infinite scale and complexity” will spark some ideas for me. Though infinity can be hard to make rules for :p Incidentally - cellular automaton is crazy pants, and did get me thinking about adding smaller than solar or even atomic level mechanics.
